Welcome...
I am pleased to announce that my novel, Half the World, has launched.
I am not pleased that the launch date happened to be on September 25. I live in Asheville, North Carolina. It was raining that day--and the next day and night. Hurricane Helene left a path of devastation through Asheville and Western North Carolina. I've had to postpone launch parties, interviews, marketing plans. My loss is miniscule compared to the loss of life and livelihood from Helene. I did have to vacate my home for the second time in my life. (The first was when I was evacuated from Iran.) We had no utilities and the community's one access road was washed out by the Swannanoa River. Please consider donating to Western North Carolina's recovery. You can contact me if you need suggestions of non-profit agencies that are doing excellent work in Asheville. In the meantime, enjoy reading Half the World.
My historical novel, Half the World, articulates the struggles of a young couple in an era fraught with political and cultural tensions—not unlike our own.
In 1977 when recently married Angela and Doug Weston move to Iran to work, little do they realize that the Iranian revolution looms on the horizon.
Angela lands a position teaching English at the University of Esfahan. Determined to disregard cultural and religious differences, she obsesses over helping a failing student who, inexplicably, treats her with disdain. Doug, bent on collecting a bonus to start his own architectural firm, combats his growing paranoia and jealousy. Past and present secrets plague the Westons’ relationship until the rising political and personal tensions jeopardize their marriage and, ultimately, their lives.
You can order a copy of Half the World here.
Writing Half the World has been special for me because I taught English in Esfahan, Iran, where I experienced the Iranian Revolution firsthand. My writing credits include stories published in Del Sol Review, the Bellevue Literary Review, and a British anthology, The Final Chapter: Writings on the End of Life.
Now, I live in Asheville, North Carolina, with a chess aficionado, a Shih-Tzu named Ming, and the occasional visiting black bear.
